| Hi Amitabha I saw your book at the bookstore a few months ago and read gobs of it. I can see why Amitav Ghosh loved the prose. And the emotional honesty. But that very emotional honesty (apart from the price in time to read that I would have to pay) is precisely why I passed up on buying and reading the book in full - I mean if a guy like you who got into IIT too can get all emotionally angsty and stuff then what use is our collective fantasy (ok maybe my own fantasy :) ) that what if I had been smarter, more emotionally stable and harder working? In other words, what if I was one of those capable of getting into IIT and had already finished making fuck you money? Maybe, also I felt that despite being demonstrably smarter than me, your emotional graph was too close to my own - so emotionally I had little to learn from you. Just feedback inspired by googling for "Bagchi IIT" and feeling old about current youth culture having passed me by. :) |
